More Information
The winery is smack bang in a middle of a purple patch. They're a new winery and they've started with off on the right note. In the Halliday Wine Companion 2017, Bondar was awarded Best New Winery. They followed that up by taking out Best Shiraz and Best Single-Vineyard Shiraz at the McLaren Vale Wine Show.
Raised only in older oak and bottled unfiltered, the 2022 mainlines the essence of the Rayner vineyard with lifted purple flowers, liquorice and cracked pepper aromas swarming around a core of finely pitched red and black fruits. Textured and gently voluptuous, intense black cherry fruit flavours are supported by fresh acidity, fine tannins and a long, salty finish. As always, this is a very happy marriage between great quality and great value.
Where this wine comes from - McLaren Vale Wine Collection
Just south of Adelaide in South Australia, McLaren Vale is a red wine drinker’s haven, producing rich, velvety textured reds the state is known for. Looking over St Vincent Gulf, the maritime influence in McLaren Vale helps to keep summer temperatures down while the steady temperatures are perfect for producing balanced reds that are certainly easy on the palate. In a similar vein to the Barossa, McLaren Vale hangs its hat on Shiraz, but similarly, Grenache and Mourvèdre play a strong supporting role – perhaps outshining the star of the show on occasion! Certainly its GSM blends deserve recognition, producing seamless wines. Enjoying its Mediterranean climate, it comes as no surprise that the wines of McLaren Vale are perfect with hearty Italian dishes – ragout, pizza, or an antipasto platter – you can’t go wrong.
