The Lloyd family founded Coriole in 1967, and are considered pioneers in the McLaren Vale region, and visionaries in the planting of Italian and French varieties. Long before it was fashionable, Mark Lloyd developed vineyards of Sangiovese, Picpoul, Chenin Blanc and others, plus of course, Shiraz.
"Ever reliable, and such good value with it. Cherry, red fruits, a smattering of dried herb and aniseed, new leather, also a little ferrous. It’s medium-bodied, crisp and lively, red fruits and almond, well-etched gently sandy tannin, good length and plenty of varietal character. Good now, likely better again with another year or two in bottle." Gary Walsh, Winefront
I have bought this wine before as Coriole are the pioneers of Sangiovese in Australia. Even though it is still young its beautifully balanced and there is a lovely freshness and earthy quality on the palate. The tannins are fine, not over-powering and the wine has classic firm Sangiovese length. I love this wine and its an absolute bargain in my view for the quality and style of one of Italy great wine varieties.
Lovely wine, they’ve been making this for long time. Quality stuff.
