"95 Points. Grenache, shiraz and mataro from original vines on the estate Bethany vineyard. Marrying the exuberant, fragrant, exotic and herbal lift of whole-bunch fermentation while upholding varietal definition, integrity and graceful palate flow is an art form. Mark Bulman has again shown his talent in this bargain blend. Flamboyant and multi-faceted in its complexity, drawing into a tail of fine-grained texture and polished persistence. Benchmark bargain." "94 Points. A blend of grenache, shiraz and mataro, sourced from some (very old) and original vines on the property. It's super fragrant, with tantalising spices and cured meats (what else?) on the bouquet, and plum on the palate, tannins right where they are needed." James Halliday. Top 100 Wines 2022.
"Grenache (68%), Shiraz (10%) and Mataro (22%) made by the deft little hands of Mark Bulman. The Grenache lends it a dark raspberry succulence, and the other grapes layer in spice, earth, dried herbs and flowers, and a sort of black olive tapenade savouriness. It’s medium-bodied, has a lovely bit of chew to the tannin, fine almost ‘mineral’ feel to the acidity, maybe a bit of liquorice oomph too. Finish is firm and long. It’s such a great drink. The Mataro component really drives it along. Highly recommended. 93 Points. Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
This is a wine that is surprisingly approachable for its district and its relative youth. It possesses good fruit and body. Its tannin and acid balance is very much in tune. It will not break the bank, and will compliment poultry, lamb or pasta. I would recommend it.
