Schwarz Wine Co 'Nitschkte Block' Shiraz 2022

Schwarz Wine Co was founded by Barossa winemaker Jason Schwarz, with the Nitschke Block holding particular significance: the Shiraz vines were planted by his parents in 1968 at Bethany, near the base of the Eastern Barossa Range, and provided the fruit for the first wine Jason made under his own label in 2001. The old vineyard remains hand-pruned and hand-picked, with loam over brown and red clay producing concentrated, characterful Shiraz.

The 2022 Nitschke Block Shiraz is rich and powerful without losing its sense of balance, showing macerated plum, violets, dark cherry, chocolate and vanilla, with concentrated fruit and firm, polished tannins. It sits at 14.2% alcohol and received 95 points + Gold from Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion, while Shanteh Wale also awarded it 95 points, calling it “a celebration of old vines.”
