About this Wine
The ‘baby brother’ of the Special Release Shiraz, the fruit coming from the same 6 acre ‘Old Clone’ vineyard. A showcase of variety and terroir, the subtle use of oak allows the rich fruit weight and complexity in this wine to shine. Decant before serving or cellar for 10 years.
About the Winery
The husband and wife team of Dominic and Krystina Morris draw on their vast winemaking experiences from France, Portugal and Australia to produce premium red wines from mainstream and alternative grape varieties, sourced from their own Bendigo vineyards, and from friends’ vineyards in Heathcote.
The Pondalowie story began in 1996 when Dominic and Krystina met while working vintage in the Barossa Valley. They chose the Bendigo region in Central Victoria and with family help set about establishing two vineyards, totalling 25 acres, planting Shiraz, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Viognier.
The original vineyard planted is now 25yrs old and is called the 'Old Clone' vineyard, reflecting the fact the cuttings that established the vineyard were sourced from 100yr old vineyards in Barossa and Clare Valleys. Wines produced from this vineyard include the Special Release Shiraz, Old Clone Shiraz, Shiraz Viognier and Cabernet Malbec.
With the recent purchase of a farm at Bambra, nestled in the Otway ranges, Pondalowie will now fulfilled another lifelong dream; to grow and produce cool-climate Pinot Noir. The new vineyard will offer another dimension to the range of wines produced, and will continue to produce, from the Bendigo vineyards and Heathcote grape growers.
Smooth, fruity Shiraz, lovely with steak. New favourite!
