Red and black cherry are the hallmark fruit qualities in the 2019 Estate Pinot Noir. Combine this with notes of black tea, blood orange, florals, spice, earth, dried herbs and forest floor, with a lick of tiramisu trailing from the oak and the results is a formidable and complex aroma profile. With the warmer 2018 season, we upped the ante with whole-bunch work to build in some additional aromatics and savoury qualities. The sweet fruit is harnessed by some serious structural ripe tannin which carries the length of the palate and is supported by bright natural acidity and a long and savoury finish.
It’s rare that a Pinot Noir which consistently wins so many awards and high ratings is price at less than $50. With a pitch perfect palate, trophies in the bag and sub-$50 price tag to boot, you've got yourself a powerful combination that should send shivers down the backs of local, more pricier pinot noir producers. Jump on board before it sells out.
The best thing about Montalto Pinot Noir is the consistent year after year quality. Have been buying their wines for 20 years as found them to be the most worthy of Vic Pinots to be buying by the dozen/s. Storing a few years will add to the quality of this wine, but it is also readily drinkable now.
