This Grenache has been produced from a single 80yr old vineyard in Rowland Flat in the Barossa Valley. The palate is generous with intense true varietal characteristics. It’s delicately rounded and generous. The mouth feel denotes the 70 year old Foudre barrels, where this wine has rested for 12 months. A superb Grenache that has a lingering finish.
About the Winery
Cirillo's claim to fame is its ownership of some of the oldest Grenache vines in the world - 3 ha of bush vines planted in 1848! But wait...there's more! They also own what is believed to be the OLDEST Semillon vines in the world. In this case a single 1ha plot located at Light Pass. Most of the grapes are sold to Torbreck, leaving only a small portion for the Cirillo label. More recent plantings are mere babes at 30 years old.
More substance than the usual Grenache (and I do like Grenache) meaty, good backpalate of dark cherries.
