Land of the Dark Hose is Tassie. Some many high quality wines are emerging from from high quality makers from (now) properly mature vineyards, yet for many the State's wines are still viewed as a new frontier. I don't think many would argue it's the leading producer for Australian sparkling wine but the same can now be said for Pinot Noir. How far behind is Chardonnay and Riesling?
Holm Oak Vineyards was established in 1983 and takes its names from the Holm Oak trees planted on the property . Holm Oak is one of the few smaller family owned wineries who grow, make and bottle their own wines on site.
"Oh, I do like this excellent chardonnay which embraces three clones from two vineyards. Everthing pretty much happened naturally with gentle pressing to 30% new and the remainder one to four-year-old oak. Fragrant florals with a mix of vanilla bean and spices complement the peachy melon character. It's a gentle wine that builds relentlessly through the palate to a sustained finish. The mouthfeel is exquisite with fine acid and fine-grained oak sitting perfectly. A super wine." 96 points Ray Jordan winepilot.com
