Winemaker Andrew Pirie is rightly considered a founding father of the Tasmanian wine industry and has contributed greatly to its reputation as a premium region. He founded Piper's Book, Ninth Island, Pirie and more recently established Apogee as a non-comprises approach to the production of super high quality wines from Northern Tasmania.

A blend 76% Pinot Noir, Chardonnay 12% and Pinot Menuier 12%

Apogee’s temperature index (14.5 ⁰C) and low moisture stress index place the vineyard close to Ay in Champagne in terms of ripening time and humidity, which influences style and leads to a full-bodied sparkling. Some of the best pinot noir grapes from clones such as 777, 521 and 115, grown on the drier section of the vineyard, are used. The ironstone based clay-loams are dry enough to exert s ome moisture stress on the vines, which helps to build the mid-palate and enrich the perfume. The vines are grown on a special version of the 2-layered Scott Henry system pioneered by Apogee which promotes fruit health and exposure.
