Sorry, this has now sold out until next vintage.
"I’d say over the past few years there’s been a little shift in style for this wine, less typical Eden Valley, more Eden via Rheinhessen, or something like that. Different anyway, and very much its own thing. Pink grapefruit, lime, a little pepper, lemon in tonic water, fresh herbs and musky/floral perfume. Savoury, spicy, chalky texture, subtle lime rind and quinine bitterness, ripe but firm acidity, distinctly umami character to the long zesty finish. So interesting. Outstanding." Rating 96 points. Old Vine Eden Valley Riesling sourced from two frost pocketed vineyards dating back to 1930.
Hand picked whole bunch pressed and free run only. Natural cold settling for 12 days then racked with little solids remai ning for wild yeast ferment at low temperature for 6 weeks continuing with lees aging for 8 weeks for added texture, weight and complexity. Expect high tone aromatics of white stone fruits, white flowers & lime. The real star is the palate which reveals all of the aromatics but sears with texture, weight & persistence that finishes crisp, dry & long.
Where this wine comes from - Eden Valley
At an average altitude of 500 metres, think of Eden Valley as the high altitude cousin and neighbour of the Barossa Valley. The ‘high country’ drops the average temperature a couple of degrees, and with cool summer nights, the region is perfect for natural acid retention. No wonder Eden Valley Riesling performs so well and has built an international reputation for its vibrant citrus, mineral and floral aromatics in its youth, with the structure to cellar for years, particularly under screw cap. Eden Valley Shiraz performs well like Barossa Valley Shiraz, but there’s a touch more refinement here with violets, pepper and blueberry fruits. There’s elegance and finesse here, still with the fruit power and intensity you expect from the Barossa wine region.
