A micro production at 60 cases per year. Crikey! Although the vines are young at 16yrs the original cuttings were taken from 9 Mataro vines planted amongst the 1850 Grenache block. This is rich, earthy, funky with savoury tannins. One for the collectors!

About the Winery

Cirillo's claim to fame is its ownership of some of the oldest Grenache vines in the world - 3 ha of bush vines planted in 1848! But wait...there's more! They also own what is believed to be the OLDEST Semillon vines in the world. In this case a single 1ha plot located at Light Pass. Most of the grapes are sold to Torbreck, leaving only a small portion for the Cirillo label. Most of the more recent plantings are mere babes at 30 years old.

Where this wine comes from - Barossa Valley

The Barossa Valley is Australia’s best-known wine region and there’s a good reason why. The wines certainly live up to their international reputation, particularly Barossa Shiraz. With long, warm summers, the region produces full-bodied styles with power and panache. The reds are rich and luscious in their youth with dark-berried flavours, fruit intensity and fine-grained tannins, which mature gracefully with time in the cellar. But there’s more to the region than Shiraz. Grenache and Mourvèdre do more than play a supporting role in GSM blends, they’re standing on their own two feet as single varietal wines. And with a new school of winemakers at the helm, the region is in good hands for a long and healthy future.
