"This is a completely different expression of Barossa Valley shiraz. Roasted nuts, curry leaves and twiggy herbs notes melt into a tide of raspberry, salted licorice, earth, woodsmoke, pepper and crushed violet characters, and maybe even brine. It’s sweet, red-fruited, dark-fruited, unusual, herbal, nutty, refreshing and floral all at once. I’m happy to put 94/100 on its but the journey it carries you on is worth more. Emphasis on the word refreshing here. Acidity has been beautifully handled. Actually, sitting with it some more, I’m easily 95/100. "This has been Hoffmann-Dallwitz vineyard fruit, and continues as such, with 1888 to 1912 Dallwitz Old as a part, and Hoffmann 1951 Dimchurch Home Old plot as another. It’s hearty stuff, boot polish and black plum, garam masala and cedar with liquorice in the mix. Chunky but fresh, for this suite of wines, lots of depth and character, the finish briny and herbal with Dutch liquorice lingering. It’s fragrant, packs in stacks of character, feels a little warming and tannins somewhat sticky, but par for the course for this heartland stuff, and the intensity and drinkability is great." 94 // Mike Bennie Wine Front
