Xanadu is a winery at the top of its game. Alongside Halliday Winemaker of the Year accolade, Xanadu was also shortlisted for Best Value Winery of the Year and again, awarded a 5 Red Star Winery rating. This is their entry level Chardonnay, but please don't be turned away by the price. Rather, read the reviews below and you'll understand why we're making a such a fuss.
Winter was warm and dry at the beginning, with late rainfall in July. The growing season was warm and relatively dry with a few hot days dispersed throughout. Yields of white varieties were variable mainly due to a very warm, dry start to winter (where a lot of Chardonnay didn’t get the chance to experience a proper winter dormancy). Careful management in the vineyard to eliminate variability resulted in excellent fruit quality, and slightly lower acidity than usual. Overall, 2025 will be remembered as another very good vintage in Margaret River, although extreme bird pressure (due to a lack of Marri blossom) presented challenges across the region, along with the variable yields.
This was an $18.00 bottle of Chardonnay. Excellent value for money. Medium chardonnay fruit. A bit more oak might elevate the wine a touch more. Overall very pleasant drinking.Doesn't make too many demands on the consumer. Leaves one looking for a bit more intensity in the fruit.
Xanadu does some of Margaret Rivers great chardonnays and this entry point wine is a fine example. Delicious and so well priced.
