Founded in 1999 by sixth-generation Barossan Dan Standish, The Standish Wine Company has become one of the Barossa’s benchmark producers of single-vineyard Shiraz. The 2024 The Standish comes from the Laycock Family Vineyard in Greenock, planted on ironstone gravel and layered schist. The ferment included 50% whole bunches, bringing additional structure and detail while keeping the vineyard firmly at the centre of the wine.
Deep and concentrated, it combines black cherry, dark plum and liquorice with savoury spice, rose petal and a distinctive ferrous edge, carried by firm, finely textured tannins. Erin Larkin awarded it 98 points for The Wine Advocate, calling it “impressive and impactful”, while Dave Brookes awarded 98+ points for Halliday Wine Companion, praising its purity, depth and clear western Barossa character.
