Dan Standish has built The Standish Wine Company into one of the Barossa’s most sought-after producers, focusing on tiny quantities of powerful yet remarkably detailed old-vine Shiraz. The Relic comes from the century-old Hongell Family Vineyard in Krondorf and takes its cue from the Northern Rhône, co-fermenting 98% Shiraz with 2% Viognier. The 2024 is intensely aromatic and fresh, with black fruit, red berries, rose and violet notes flowing into a silky, powerful palate framed by fine, ferrous, chalky tannins.
Erin Larkin of The Wine Advocate awarded it 98 points, praising its freshness, silky texture and long, powerful structure, calling it “very impressive.” The 2024 spent the same extended 542-day élevage used across Standish’s 2024 collection, a dry, low-yielding vintage that produced wines of impressive concentration and detail.
