Rieslingfreak is John Hughes’ specialist Riesling project, dedicated entirely to showing just how expressive the variety can be across South Australia’s best sites. No.12 comes from three small family-owned vineyards in Flaxman Valley, within High Eden, and for the first time in 2026 the wine is an equal blend of all three sites.
The 2026 is beautifully fine and precise, with kaffir lime, kiwifruit and rose-petal perfume leading into yuzu, finger lime and quince. There’s a cool wet-slate and flinty character running through the wine, with bright natural acidity giving it a long, tightly focused finish. It’s a particularly refined expression of Eden Valley Riesling, with plenty of freshness now and the structure to develop in bottle.
