The Masters wines are named after a person whom, or event that, has played an intrinsic role in the Peter Lehmann story. Crafted from the classic Barossa varietals, the wines are released with 5 years of bottle age and will continue to age gracefully for many years. Andrew Wigan was mentored by Peter Lehmann and was at his side when the winery was founded in 1979. He was Chief Winemaker from 1980 - 2014. Peter Lehmann’s reputation for Barossa Shiraz was soon complemented by Andrew’s passion for white wines. His refinement of the whites was revolutionary and his contribution to the Peter Lehmann story was recognised in 2003 with the re-naming of the revered ‘Reserve’ Riesling as ‘Wigan’ Riesling.
"Mid-straw and bright in the glass. Tightly bound aromas of lemon, lime, grapefruit pith, white flowers, wet slate and a lick of lemon curd. Crunchy, textured, tight and focused. There’s real poise and drive here, along with a decent amount of grip and very smart length. Very pure riesling” 96 Points & 5 Stars Aaron Brasher, The Real Review
“Slick and steely with flourishing freshly picked herbs, grass, green tea and apple over a lustrous palate of fine toast and searing citrus acidity. The evolution is marked but the precision of fruit and structure ensure further ageing capacity.” 97 Points Decanter World Wine Awards 2023
“It’s hard to imagine a better example of a mature Aussie Riesling, and one that still has plenty of cellaring time if you wish. It’s sourced from up in the cool Eden Valley and over many years has been considered one of Australia’s greatest Rieslings. The colour has moved ever so slightly and the distinctive mature notes of toast and honey with a slightly buttery character emerge. But these are still in the earliest stages and will continue to deepen with even greater complexity. Do yourself a favour and check this baby out.” 98 Points Ray Jordan
