About this Wine
A new wine produced from 11 year old vines. Barrel ferment much the same method as the Chardonnay. Older barrels used, lees contact and stirred for 6 months, 10 months in barrel. Only 80 cases made.
"Fermented with spontaneous yeast in high quality French wood, the stamp of class is clear. This said, the leesy detail and build of creamy vanillin texture across the mid-palate, while rewarding, tends to obfuscate savagnin's identity. While the variety's telltale salinity and curry powder aromas are there to dig for, the overall impression is one of winemaking." 91pts - Ned Goodwin - Wine Companion
About the Winery
"The Original Vineyard was planted by James McLaurin in 1996, mainly to Chardonnay, Shiraz (in 2013 grafted to Chardonnay), Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec; with lesser plantings of Petit Verdot, Sagrantino and Savagnin. The Lineage Vineyard was planted in '08 to Shiraz, followed by lesser plantings of Petit Verdot, Sagrantino and Savagnin. No insecticides are used, only copper, sulphur, milk and oil as foilage sprays. The wines are aged in 33% new French oak, the remainder 2-4 years old. The low yields result in intensely flavoured wines," 5 Star Winery - James Halliday
