97 Points & Riesling of the Year. Ray Jordan. WA Wine Review 2023
“Duke’s Rieslings are quite remarkable. I don’t think there is a more powerful and intense Riesling made in (WA). Over the years, they have continued to excel reflecting both the winemaking and the exceptional site which brings something special to the wines.
”The quality of Riesling from the Great Southern in its various subregions is remarkable. The region is now firmly established as one of Australia’s premier Riesling regions." 97 Points. Riesling of the Year. Ray Jordan. WA Wine Review 2023
"Smoky struck-flint reduction at first sniff then a suite of fruit aromas gradually unfolds, floral, mineral, green apple and lemon to the fore. The wine is tightly wound and very restrained, delicate and tense, needing time to emerge fully. Lively acidity is neatly integrated into the wine. A long-term wine for sure, a style that needs time and will richly reward even a few years cellaring." Huon Hooke. The Real Review
Pound for pound, this is the most highly rated, best value riesling in Australia. Rather than attempting to write something amazing to make you hit the Buy Now button, I've gotta say, the article below published by Erin Larkin who contributes to The Wine Companion magazine does it better than I ever could, so I won't reinvent the wheel:
"Australia's most collectible Riesling? Your might immediately jump to the Grosset Polish Hill, and rightly so. But the Duke's Single Vineyard Magpie Riesling is every bit as good as the Polish Hill, albeit a completely different expression. In the past decade, this has scored no less than 96 points from James Halliday. In 2017 it was the awarded the highest poines he has ever given to a riesling, 99 points, making it the riesling of the year. It was and still is the highest ever score given to an Australian Riesling.
