Curly Flat is one of the Macedon Ranges’ benchmark cool-climate estates, established from 1989 on a high-altitude site near Lancefield. The 2024 Chardonnay comes from estate vines planted on volcanic basalt soils and was whole-bunch pressed, naturally fermented and matured for 12 months in French oak, with 30% new oak. The result is finely structured and precise, with white flowers, lemon sorbet, green apple and white peach layered with subtle cedar, spice and lees-derived complexity.
There’s a creamy richness through the palate from partial malolactic fermentation, balanced by a tight line of acidity and chalky, mineral length. Lisa Cardelli awarded it 95 points for Wine Pilot, praising its “textural, multi-layered palate” and overall harmony, while Ray Jordan awarded 94 points.
