Crawford River is one of Australia’s benchmark Riesling producers, farming its remote Henty vineyard in south-west Victoria since the Thomson family established the site in 1975. This 2018 Museum Release comes from the estate’s original Riesling plantings dating from 1975–77. The fruit was fermented dry in stainless steel, with individual parcels spending 8–12 weeks on full lees before blending and bottling in September 2018.
Beautifully mature yet remarkably fresh, the 2018 shows lemon curd and white florals alongside subtle toast and almond, with a finely chalky texture, soft acidity and excellent length. Philip Rich awarded it 96 points in the Halliday Wine Companion, while Aaron Brasher of The Real Review also gave it 96 points, ranking it #2 of 52 wines tasted.
