"The quality of the wines is consistently exemplary" - James Halliday
Clyde Park Vineyard was established in 1979 by none other than Gary Farr of Bannockburn / Br Farr fame. Under the current owners, Sue Dixon and Terry Jongebloed, further plantings since have increased the vineyard to 35 acres, expanding the Chardonnay and adding Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris. In all 7 clones of Pinot Noir, 6 clones of Chardonnay, 2 clones of Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc and a sole clone of Pinot Gris.
The site consists of undulating north easterly slopes. The soil varies from silt/clay to sandy loam with basalt over a limestone base. Plantings on the north easterly slope provide exposure to sunlight, whilst the river flat area offers warmth and wind protection.
Blended from a range of clones and soil types, carefully selected from vineyards in Geelong & Regional Victoria, this wine reflects the diverse complexity of the varying aspects and soils of those sites.
The wine was fermented separately in smaller, open-top fermenters, with about 20 percent whole bunch. The ferments were then hand-plunged twice a day, to maximise the extraction of tannins and colour.
The result – A bright crimson pinot that is equal-parts easy-drinking and complex. The palate presents bright fresh summer berries and aromatic spices bound with toasty oak. A fantastic red to have on its own, or perfectly paired with grilled salmon or roast chicken.
This wine certainly punches above it's price point. It is so good I bought a second '6pack' and find it hard not to keep drinking it. This is serious pinot...quite deep colour, complex and very drinkable although will keep in the cellar for a few years. My suggestion...get some before it disappears.
