More Information

The Cirillo 1850 Semillon is harvested entirely from a single vineyard at Light Pass in the Barossa Valley. It is believed to be the oldest producing Semillon vine on earth! Picked early in the season, normally in mid‐late January, it is harvested with great acidity. The fruit is handpicked and basket pressed. The wine is then tank fermented, without oak.  It is extremely pale green/yellow, almost clear in colour.

About the Winery

Cirillo's claim to fame is its ownership of some of the oldest Grenache vines in the world - 3 ha of bush vines planted in 1848! But wait...there's more! They also own what is believed to be the OLDEST Semillon vines in the world. In this case a single 1ha plot located at Light Pass. Most of the grapes are sold to Torbreck, leaving only a small portion for the Cirillo label. More recent plantings are mere babes at 30 years old.
