Marchesi Antinori’s Tignanello helped reshape Tuscan wine, pioneering the maturation of Sangiovese in barriques. Sourced exclusively from its namesake vineyard in Chianti Classico, the 2022 combines Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. It matured for just over 13 months in predominantly new French oak, with a small proportion of Hungarian oak, followed by another 12 months in bottle.
Cherry, ripe black cherry and pomegranate mingle with violet, fresh balsamic notes and a touch of vanilla. The palate balances concentrated fruit with freshness, supple savoury tannins and a long finish. Monica Larner awarded it 97 points for Wine Advocate, praising its “soft tannins, texture and length.”
