Ansted & Osicka brings together Tobias Ansted—former senior winemaker at Balgownie—and Simon Osicka of Paul Osicka Wines. Their Cabernet comes from Balgownie’s original 1970 plantings at Maiden Gully, grown on their own roots in the alluvial clay loam beside Myers Creek. The 2025 is likely to be their final release from this historically important block.
Elegant and tightly structured, it layers cassis and black cherry with violets, baking spice, leafy bush herbs, earth and briar, supported by fine Cabernet tannins and French oak. Mike Bennie awarded it 95+ points, praising its “sublime balance”, while Jeni Port scored it 95 points and highlighted its fragrance, detail and ageing potential.
