Coonawarra
There’s a special patch of dirt in the south-east corner of South Australia. The famous terra rossa soil of Coonawarra combines with the maritime influence of the Southern Ocean, combining to make Coonawarra the Cabernet Sauvignon capital of Australia – although Margaret River might argue the call! Regardless – when it comes to reputation, Coonawarra has the runs on the board to produce Cabernet Sauvignon with structure, elegance and finesse, not to mention the ability to age in the cellar. While Cabernet is king, Shiraz is no slouch, either as a single varietal or to produce that unique Australian blend – Coonawarra Cabernet Shiraz. Taste each variety side-by-side and as a blend and you’ll see the merits in all of them. Here’s cheers to that!
