"These 2021's are very very good, such piercing aromatics of peach and flint with the faintest thread of vanillin influence. Lovely concentration on the palate, with good tension held by mineral lines of acidity. Fruit comes in the way of new season nectarine that is set against precise lemon; time in barrel has given weight and spice however it doesn't detract from the quality of fruit. The finish is long and complex with mealy top notes. Rating: 96 Points. Patrick Eckel. winereviewer.com.au,
"It was a tough call but this was my favourite of the new releases from Burton McMahon. It is a classically proportioned Chardonnay with fantastic drive, poise and balance that offers superb drinking now and will continue to do so for some time to come. There is a delicious aromatic purity to start – florals, citrus and melon with an attractive savoury flintiness gently swinging in. Then it hits you like a freight train with an intense core of vibrant and youthful citrus flavours with smoky/nougat nuances before driving through to a long, seamless porcelain finish. Superb now and for some time to come." Rating: 93. Angus Hughson. Wine Pilot.
"Whole-bunch pressed and barrel fermented in 300L (20-30% new) and 500L older French barrels. A pale but bright green gold. With its aromas of mandarin, orange peel, freshly cut pear, grilled nuts and a little matchstick, this is all about restraint. Tightly wound on the palate, this has terrific line and length (think of Glen McGrath at his prime) and finishes with a pithy, subtle, lemon oil nuance. This is built for the cellar and I can see this very good wine opening up and becoming even more complex in another year or two." Rating: 93. Philip Rich. James Halliday Wine Companion 2023
