Made by Rob Hall, who worked at Mount Mary for a decade. You can be certain that some of that Mount Mary magic has rubbed off on Rob while making this wine.
This is special. First let's start with the winemaker - Rob Hall - while this may be a new name for you, Rob is certainly no strange in the wine world. Rob cut his teeth at Mount Mary, perhaps the most famous Yarra Valley producer and he worked there for 10 years as assistant winemaker.
He's now making his wine under his own name, sourcing fruit from the very best vineyards just like Willowlake (think Oakridge Willowlake Pinot Noir) and puts his magic touch he learned at Mount Mary on each Pinot Noir. The result? It's certainly captured Philip Rich's attention in Halliday's Wine Companion, here he rated it 95 points and wrote:
Deep ruby in colour with darker edges and a soft crimson hue. Aromas lift from the glass with notes of violet, ripe cherry, strawberry and a hint of anise, followed by nuances of rhubarb, wild berries, fresh herbs and gentle oak spice.
The palate is generous yet refined, showing layers of red and dark cherry, strawberry and subtle anise, complemented by touches of rhubarb and savoury herb complexity. Hints of bramble, forest floor and spice add further depth. Smooth and expressive, it carries fine, velvety tannins through to a long, elegant finish.
Best enjoyed over the next 5–6 years.
Excellent value
We saw a great review for this wine from Cloudwine. We had not tried it so we thought why not! We had always been very satisfied with Cloudwine before and they did not disappoint with this recommendation.
