Balgownie Estate was the first vineyard planted in Bendigo district in more than 80 years! It was established by the legendary winemaker Stuart Anderson in 1969. The emergence of Balgownie Estate as a serious red wine producer in the 1970’s led to the rapid expansion of the central goldfields wine growing region and was a significant player in the rebirth of the Victorian wine industry. The 33-hectare vineyard is situated on a gentle slope overlooking Myer’s Creek at Maiden Gully.
"Set at 500 metres above sea level outside of Lancefield – here lies the pinot noir vines for this wine. Elegant, supple, slippery and seamless pinot noir of instant charm and then some good detail and complexity. Classic cherry, rose, truffle scents and flavours, this freshness and lift and delicacy in the palate, a touch of alpine herbs and away we go. Really pretty, fine, lacy style with high gulpability in tow. Lacy, twiggy, firming tannins to finish a clincher. This is really lovely."Rated : 93 Points. Alcohol : 12%." Mike Bennie. The Wine Front.
