"Beautiful Meadowbank, on Tasmania’s upper Derwent River, is primarily a grape grower with 52ha of vines – enough for only 800 dozen directed to wines contract-made by Peter Dredge. It’s such a ravishing wine, as rich and deep as it is pure and fine. Redefines citrus." 98 Points. James Halliday Top 100 Wines of 2023
“Meadowbank’s vineyard is one of the most important in Tasmanian wine; a whole host of the best quality and most interesting Tasmanian wine brands source fruit from it. The label and winery itself has had a bit of a hiatus but renowned winemaker Peter Dredge has teamed up with the Ellis family to kick things back into life.” Campbell Mattinson
Meadowbank's Riesling vines (mostly Geisenheim 198 clone) are spread across two sites, one planted in 1974 and the other in 2005. This juicy and spine-tingling Riesling was hand-picked from these sandy, north-facing slopes, whole-cluster pressed and naturally fermented (50% in stainless steel for freshness, and 50% wild-fermented in old French barriques for texture). Both parcels were matured on their lees for three months before blending and bottling without fining. Dredge describes 2021 was an interesting vintage, characterised by very light yields but with excellent flavour intensity. Bottled without fining.
