Chateau Musar 2000

The 2000 vintage of chateau Musar is a blend of Cabernet sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan - approximately a third of each. It was fermented in cement vats and then aged for 1 year in French Nevers oak barriques. It was blended and bottled at the end of 2003 and aged for a further 3 - 4 years in the cellars at Chateau Musar before it's release in May 2007.

"Reasonably mature. Brick red rim, autumnal faded red bowl. Mouth-watering acidity on the nose that can be smelt a foot away. Lovely aromas of damp autumn forests, decaying leaves and wood combine with a slightly chocolatey sweetness. A little spirit developed over the course of the evening: almost a Drambuie or Grand Marnier character. Slightly sweet on the palate with very long, classic autumnal Musar notes, soft, mature and Old World, braced by that lovely acidity. Musar won't be on many people 's 'best of' lists but it is undoubtedly one of the world's most important wineries. The most famous and well regarded Lebanese winery, established in 1930 and has managed to release wines every year despite the various instances of war and civil unrest over the years. Chateau Musar produces an earthy complex range of wines that age beautifully and Serge Hochar was awarded the first Decanter magazine "Man of the Year in 1984.

Founded by Gaston Hochar in 1930, Chateau Musar lies in a 17th century Mzar castle in Ghazir, just North of Beruit overlooking the Mediterranean sea. One of the great wines of the world Chateau Musar has been run by Gaston's sons, Serge (who studied winemaking under the great Emile Peynaud at the University of Bordeaux) and Ronald since 1959. The grand vin is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, Carignan, Grenache and Mourvedre with the white wine being a blend of native varieties including Merwah and Obaideh. With glowing reviews from international wine critics, Chateau Musar produces an earthy complex range of wines that age beautifully and Serge Hochar was awarded the first Decanter magazine "Man of the Year in 1984.
