2024 was warm, and very dry, indeed the most dry vintage since 2007. Spring conditions commenced early, bringing forward flowering and veraison. The remainder of the growing season stayed dry and warm. One would normally associate dry conditions with extreme heat - but that was not the case. However the dry conditions produced extremely low yields, and very concentrated flavours.
The colour is bright and intense, pale straw with a hint of gold.
The nose combines orchard fruit and mineral notes - white peach and nectarine, apricot, stone fruit, with some sea spray and struck match adding complexity.
The palate is fresh and vibrant, though powerful. Opening with crisp orchard fruits before revealing layers of apricot and melon, some phenolic grip adds texture and depth to the middle palate. A long mineral finish brings finesse and balance.
This is a Chardonnay of purity, concentration, and energy. Truly an excellent vintage of our Wilyabrup Valley Chardonnay.
