Possibly the leading Riesling from the Grampians? Year after year this cleans up at wine shows and pulls in massive critic ratings. The region may not be 'on trend' for the variety but the wine is certainly 'on point'.
"A stunner of a riesling! Best's produces one of Victoria's best and most underrated rieslings. It shines here in a cool year with the kind of delicacy that the grape does well, in white flowers and apple blossom, lively lime citrus, lemon drop and talc. Fine edged in acidity and naturally ebullient in its youth, it's going to last and last. Finishes with a lifted, lemon pastille note. Delish. 11.5% alc. $27. Drink: 2025 - 2035. Screwcap." 96 Points. Jeni Port. Halliday Wine Companion.
"The acidity and drive you expect of good Riesling is there all right, everything in its place. But it’s in the flavour where this wine shines. There’s loads of it - apple, citrus, nashi pear and a squeeze of lime, all very generous and bright. History tells us this is a great cellaring wine, but it’s such an elegant and expressive youngster that I’d savour the moment." Rick Allan. Newcastle Herald
Year in year out Great Western Riesling never disappoints. The 2024 is right up there with their best, lovely mouthfeel of fruit initially followed by complimentary acid and a long finish. No reason why it won’t age well in years to come.
