There is no other Rose in Australia like this. No other rose this year has won this many trophies this year. Simply, it's the Australian Rose of the Year!
Paullets is an outstanding Clare Valley producer, It's very established, with its first release around 40 years ago. Despite Riesling been the iconic variety of the region, Pauletts Rose is perhaps their flagship, selling out first each and every year and this is perhaps their best ever. Due to the hard work of some very dogged Cloudwine folk, this is somewhat of an exclusive - you won't see floating around the traps, we purchased most Victoria's allocation. Yes, this is why you're on Cloudwine mailing list.
I've said it before but too often these days I'm left scratching my head wondering why so many wineries can't make beautiful Rose? This Rose should serve as a wake-up call to those who simply make boring rose. This has everything going for it plus a keen price of $22.95, which screams value. Three trophies at three capital city wine shows plus the top Gold at Royal Sydney: Australia's best rose? I think so
I had high hopes for this, knowing the Paulett's Riesling to be a quality drop, but alas, it didn't do it for me. Starts off ok, but then there was a definite harshness to the mid-palate. This was fixed with a block of ice, transforming the wine into an easy-drinking aperitif.
A very fruity wine that’s ideal for casual summer drinking. I would prefer a drier style with a bit more grip on the palate. Whatever, it is above the average quality for price ratio of most Aussie rose.
My wife & I had the Pauletts Rose with a tapas meal. It held it's own against some pretty strong flavours from chilli, garlic and olive oil. It is now our second favourite Rose behind another Chris recommendation, the Collector Shoreline Rose, another Sangiovese Rose.
My wife and I shared the Pauletts Rose over a tapas meal which was mainly seafood. The wine excelled. It held its own against some pretty strong flavours of garlic, chilli, seafood and olive oil. It has now become our second favourite Rose after another Rose Chris has recommended to us, the Collector Shoreline Rose. Another Sangiovese Rose. Enjoy.
