Your Chardonnay dreams prayers have been answered. Today we offer a premium $32 Chardonnay for $19.80. You'll be pleased to know this is not some obscure made up wine, rather it's the magnificent Yarraloch Single Vineyard Chardonnay 2015 - a premium Yarra Valley producer from a vintage rated 9/10 by James Halliday and made by the 2017 Gourmet Traveller WINE Winemaker of the Year.
"94 Points. A perfect model of Yarra Valley chardonnay, making it all seem so easy, the result more to do with hands off, rather than hands on, vinification. It has the purity and length of the better Yarra chardonnays. Indeed, by the time the shouting is over, you decide if it's a little too straight-laced. Perhaps more time will prove the wine had it right all along." James Halliday
It's not very often you see a wine of this calibre, at 5 years of age, come on the market at such a big discount. If anything, a release like this would usually attract a premium, not a discount. We have 45 dozen available, so be quick if you're interested.
Where this wine comes from - Yarra Valley
Just 50 kilometres from Melbourne, Victoria’s Yarra Valley is a star of the wine regions surrounding the city, known as the ‘Melbourne Dress Circle’. With plenty of microclimates and sub-regions, the Yarra Valley doesn’t have a weak link. Certainly the region’s reputation has been built on the quality of its cool climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. As far as Chardonnay goes, Yarra Valley strikes the right balance of ripeness, without going over the edge. There’s white peach, lemon pith and Fuji apple supported by a fine spine of citrus-like acidity complemented by supportive oak maturation. The region’s Pinot Noir certainly produces that ethereal quality that Pinot-philes go crazy for – with lifted cherry notes, texture and length. Pinosity? It’s here in spades. Don’t discount Yarra Valley Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, which also have a long history in the region and are being recognised for producing their own unique regional styles. Game on!
