More Information

Your Pinot Noir dreams prayers have been answered. This is a premium $30 Pinot Noir for $16.99. You'll be pleased to know this is not some obscure made up wine, rather it's the Yarraloch Single Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015 - a premium Yarra Valley producer from a vintage rated 10/10 by James Halliday and made by the 2017 Gourmet Traveller WINE Winemaker of the Year.

It's not very often you see a wine of this calibre, at 5 years of age, come on the market at such a big discount. If anything, a release like this would usually attract a premium, not a discount.

Indeed this "entry level" pinot noir is in good form and our price of $16.99 certainly makes it an easy pinot to recommend. It's got the James Halliday 95 point rating in the bag and we've come to the party with the price.
It's not just your Cloudwine crowing about this wine, the biggest wine scribes in Australia are jumping up and down:

"it’s engaging and good to drink.” Gary Walsh

"markedly more complex, with greater fruit depth and more savoury spice notes on the very long palate." James Halliday

This and La Cosette have virtually identical vinification the only difference an extra 3 days on skins and 7% new oak and this is 100% MV6 clone. Whether there was some difference in row selection or picking dates we don't know, other than the identical alcohol. Whatever, this is markedly more complex, with greater fruit depth and more savoury spice notes on the very long palate. Drink to: 2027; Price: $35.00; Date Tasted: Feb 2017; Alcohol: 13%; Rating: 95 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday

It’s been a few years between drinks here at The Wine Front on the YarraLoch front. Autumnal, spicy, cherry, suggestion of brown sugar coming through. Juicy, sappy, cherry and red fruits, layered with spice, emery tannin, savoury and dry to close. Blows cool and warm in a way, but it’s engaging and good to drink. Alc: 13%; Price: $35; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2019 - 2029; Rated: 92 Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front

This is a powerhouse in its price class. Make hay while the sun shines & have a good weekend!

Where this wine comes from - Yarra Valley

Just 50 kilometres from Melbourne, Victoria’s Yarra Valley is a star of the wine regions surrounding the city, known as the ‘Melbourne Dress Circle’. With plenty of microclimates and sub-regions, the Yarra Valley doesn’t have a weak link. Certainly the region’s reputation has been built on the quality of its cool climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. As far as Chardonnay goes, Yarra Valley strikes the right balance of ripeness, without going over the edge. There’s white peach, lemon pith and Fuji apple supported by a fine spine of citrus-like acidity complemented by supportive oak maturation. The region’s Pinot Noir certainly produces that ethereal quality that Pinot-philes go crazy for – with lifted cherry notes, texture and length. Pinosity? It’s here in spades. Don’t discount Yarra Valley Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, which also have a long history in the region and are being recognised for producing their own unique regional styles. Game on!
