About this Wine
Woodlands Chardonnay is a fruit-forward earlier drinking Margaret River style displaying ripe stone-fruit cut by fresh vibrant acidity and supported by lightly spiced vanillin oak. Fruit is sourced from the Wilyabrup sub region of Margaret River. The wine is barrel fermented then racked to tank. A minor component is matured in barrel, before the components are blended together filtered and bottled.
"A richly flavoured chardonnay, plied by juicy rails of acidity and a billow of gentle oak. Some leesy detail meanders amidst the stone to tropical fruit references. This has the cake, while allowing one to eat it, too: contemporary tension bridled with ample flavour." 91pts - Ned Goodwin - Wine Companion
About the Winery
Woodlands vineyard was established in 1973 by David & Heather Watson and was one of the first five vineyards to be planted in the Margaret River Wine Region along with the likes of Mosswood and Cullen. David and Heather aimed to create wines to emulate the great vineyards of Bordeaux.
Woodlands produces wines from its two vineyards, both located in the Wilyabrup Valley. The original vineyard is located on Caves Rd, while the Woodlands Brook Vineyard is located just two kilometres away to the northeast. The vineyards are dry grown and maintained by hand using traditional and biodynamic methods.
Woodlands now has an annual production of 12000 cases,
In 2010 David and Heather were awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Margaret River Wine Industry Association and in 2016 were the joint recipients of the prestigious Jack Mann Memorial Medal. The medal is awarded annually to those who have made a significant contribution to the WA Wine Industry.
