98 Points & included in James Halliday Top 100 Wines!
Today we offer the cheapest ever Chardonnay rated 98 points by James Halliday; Watershed Awakening A1 Margaret River Chardonnay 2016 and it' just $31.99 a bottle.
To give you an idea of how much you'd normally need to pay for a 98 point Chardonnay, lets look at a few other Chardonnays awarded 98 points this year: Giaconda Chardonnay 2015, Hardys Eileen Hardy Chardonnay 2015 and Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay 2014 to name a few. All above-named are at least $85 a bottle!
This is a 100 per cent barrel fermentation chardonnay with a dense creamy textured palate which is complemented by grapefruit and mineral notes. It's a chardonnay for those who enjoy oak, but not in the way which was made in the 1980s!
While this is the most expensive Watershed wine, it's still the cheapest chardonnay ever to score 98 points from James Halliday; you're unlikely to come across a better value Chardonnay this year. Halliday also must have thought this, putting it in his Top 100 wines of the Year.
And if you'd like some encouragement to buy, then please read Halliday's review below.
"The soaring intensity and precision of the wine obliterates any comment about the oak. It is one of those uncommon chardonnays that demands you give it time, the more the merrier. Grapefruit is the masthead, but it gathers around it a suite of flavours that keep its energy and drive on track." 98 Points - James Halliday
