"A precise portrait of Eden Valley riesling.....the upside its floral lime/lemon aromas, the palate with marvellous juicy flavours framed by mouthwatering acidity." 95pts - James Halliday
"It must have been a strange feeling for John Vickery to begin at the beginning again, 60 years after his first vintage in 1951. His interest in, love of and exceptional skills with riesling began with Leo Buring in '55 at Chateau Leonay. Over the intervening years he became the uncrowned but absolute monarch of riesling makers in Australia." James Halliday
"A precise portrait of Eden Valley riesling achieved despite a torrid growing season, the downside the miserable size of the yield, the upside its floral lime/lemon aromas, the palate with marvellous juicy flavours framed by mouthwatering acidity." 95pts - James Halliday - Wine Companion
Where this wine comes from - Eden Valley
At an average altitude of 500 metres, think of Eden Valley as the high altitude cousin and neighbour of the Barossa Valley. The ‘high country’ drops the average temperature a couple of degrees, and with cool summer nights, the region is perfect for natural acid retention. No wonder Eden Valley Riesling performs so well and has built an international reputation for its vibrant citrus, mineral and floral aromatics in its youth, with the structure to cellar for years, particularly under screw cap. Eden Valley Shiraz performs well like Barossa Valley Shiraz, but there’s a touch more refinement here with violets, pepper and blueberry fruits. There’s elegance and finesse here, still with the fruit power and intensity you expect from the Barossa wine region.
