Excellent dry riesling from 80 year old vines.
"Excellent dry riesling from 80 year old vines. Tim has always had a close connection to Eden Valley Riesling. In his early days as assistant winemaker at Yalumba he saw the making of Pewsey Vale and Heggies Rieslings, and later he made Riesling for small Eden Valley producers from the great 2005 vintage. Tim also introduced a single vineyard Riesling into the Chateau Tanunda portfolio with success....The fruit comes from a single low-yielding vineyard planted in 1922 and is 450 meters above sea level. "Beautiful elegant riesling. Power and finesse. Lime and lavender, bath salts and spice. A treat." 94pts - Campbell Mattinson - WineFront
Where this wine comes from - Eden Valley
At an average altitude of 500 metres, think of Eden Valley as the high altitude cousin and neighbour of the Barossa Valley. The ‘high country’ drops the average temperature a couple of degrees, and with cool summer nights, the region is perfect for natural acid retention. No wonder Eden Valley Riesling performs so well and has built an international reputation for its vibrant citrus, mineral and floral aromatics in its youth, with the structure to cellar for years, particularly under screw cap. Eden Valley Shiraz performs well like Barossa Valley Shiraz, but there’s a touch more refinement here with violets, pepper and blueberry fruits. There’s elegance and finesse here, still with the fruit power and intensity you expect from the Barossa wine region.
