Cardiologist Peter Thompson planted the first vines at Thompson Estate in 1997, inspired by his and his family's shareholdings in the Pierro and Fire Gully vineyards. From the outset at Thompson Estate, the focus has been on high quality wine production and this has been recognized in a lar ge number of wine show medals and accolades from the wine press.
It is with some pride and fascination for Peter Thompson, a cardiologist, that Vasse Felix, the first vineyard in Margaret River, and Thompson Estate’s next-door neighbour, was planted in Wilyabrup by Dr Tom Cullity, a cardiologist who was a mentor for Peter.
"Despite all of the attention plied to chardonnay and cab, there is a great deal of classy blends across these two stalwarts. Inspired, surely, by the best wines of Graves. Some oaky creaminess and cedar edges mitigate excess, corralling the nettle, sugar snap pea, melon and guava notes into a choir rather a multitude of jarring solos." 93pts - Ned Goodwin - Wine Companion
