Peel Estate 'Old Vine' Shiraz 2012

"Hand-picked, open-fermented for 5 days, 30 months maturation, 90% in French oak, 10% American. The fruit carries the alcohol and the oak like an old pro - and has easily surmounted another 5 years bottle age." 95pts - James Halliday - Wine Companion

More Information

Peel Estate is the long-time leader in the greater Peel region.  In 1973 the first Shiraz vines were planted, followed by Chenin Blanc and Zinfandel in 1976, and Cabernet Sauvignon in 1979. Other varieties such as Chardonnay, Verdelho, Cabernet Franc and the traditional Portuguese Port Varieties were planted in 1980.

With the fruit solely from our original 1973 vines, this 2013 Old Vine Shiraz shows superb colour with peppery intense fruit well integrated with oak. Extended barrel maturation and minimal filtration gives complexity which will ensure that while drinking well now, it will continue to develop for many years.
