"its star shines brighter than that of any of the 174 wineries in the valley" James Halliday
67% Sauvignon Blanc, 23% Semillon, 10% Muscadelle. The 2017 Triolet speaks so clearly of Dr John Middleton’s ideals and vision for this blend. It is a tighter, more restrained example than 2016, while displaying so much underlying power and concentration.
"65% Sauvignon Blanc, 25% Semillon, 10% Muscadelle. Hand-picked, barrel-fermented with a range o f different cultured yeasts, 11 months in oak (5% new), some large format. The spine of acidity is a feature certain to hold the wine safe in bottle for 10+ years." 96pts - James Halliday - Wine Companion
"This has a very rich and complex fruit spectrum in 2017; everything is ripe and offering plenty of primary fruit with lemons, peaches and melon in abundance. The palate has a super plush, sleek and gently fleshy feel with a wealth of yellow-citrus and white-peach flavor. Great spine of acidity too. A blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Muscadelle. Drink or hold. Screw cap." 95pts - Nick Stock - jamessuckling.com
Where this wine comes from - Yarra Valley
Just 50 kilometres from Melbourne, Victoria’s Yarra Valley is a star of the wine regions surrounding the city, known as the ‘Melbourne Dress Circle’. With plenty of microclimates and sub-regions, the Yarra Valley doesn’t have a weak link. Certainly the region’s reputation has been built on the quality of its cool climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. As far as Chardonnay goes, Yarra Valley strikes the right balance of ripeness, without going over the edge. There’s white peach, lemon pith and Fuji apple supported by a fine spine of citrus-like acidity complemented by supportive oak maturation. The region’s Pinot Noir certainly produces that ethereal quality that Pinot-philes go crazy for – with lifted cherry notes, texture and length. Pinosity? It’s here in spades. Don’t discount Yarra Valley Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, which also have a long history in the region and are being recognised for producing their own unique regional styles. Game on!
