We must say, the last 12 months has been perhaps among the best 12 months for lovers of shiraz. Not only have we been blessed high quality examples, but due to declining export sales, prices have remained stable or have actually reduced. Think of Torzi Matthews Schist Rock, Maxwell SilverHammer, Dandelion & Longhop just to name a few. There are all $20 or less. And today we have another such offering, although it’s touch higher at $20 a bottle. It’s from Morgan Simpson of McLaren Vale and some of you may be familiar with the brand for we sold truckloads of the 2005 a few years ago. They skipped the 2006 and 2007 vintages as it wasn’t up to scratch and we’re now selling the 2015 vintage.
This wine is a stunner. Winemaker, Richard Simpson has done an excellent job of selecting small parcels of fruit from his vineyard first planted to put into this wine. The quality is obvious when you taste it, as is the care & love that goes into making such a wine. The wine is handmade on site using traditional small scale winemaking equipment and and old style methods.
