About this Wine

‘The kind of year you hope for every year', says the team at Lightfoot. Hand-picked, a portion (30% of the total wine) had 30% whole bunches included, open-fermented, hand-plunged, pressed to French oak (15% new). Light colour, but no want of flavour or drive. Satsuma plum and red cherry fruit threaded with tendrils of spicy, savoury palate and tannins." 94 Points.  James Halliday - Wine Companion

"This Gippsland vineyard clearly grows good pinot noir. This is a firm, assertive pinot, spicy and tangy but with a core of ripe, varietal fruit flavour. It doesn’t put a foot wrong and while it definitely leans towards the spicy/leafy/savoury side the volume of fruit here should see it favoured by a wide variety of pinot drinkers." 92pts - Campbell Mattinson - The WineFront

About the Winery
Lightfoot & Sons Myrtle Point Vineyard is located in East Gippsland, Victoria, within view of the Gippsland Lakes. The vineyard site, situated between the foothills of the Great Dividing Range and Bass Strait, was selected when soil mapping of the region identified tracts of the much celebrated Terra Rosa over Limestone soil structure.

The 29Ha vineyard was planted between 1995-1997 by the Lightfoot family on their farm ‘Myrtle Point’. Pinot Noir plantings make up almost half, with smaller bocks of Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet.

The wines are made by Alastair Butt and Tom Lightfoot. Alastair brings more than 25 years of winemaking experience to the winery, working previously in the Yarra Valley and Hunter Valley.   After completing a Viticultural Science and Wine Production degree, Tom has worked a number of vintages in wineries throughout Australia and the Northern Hemisphere.  Tom now manages the Myrtle Point Vineyard and assists Alastair in winemaking.
