About this Wine

Excellent concentration of flavour. No lack of style. Green melon, white peach, a wealth of seductive/creamy oak, and a bit of dazzle dazzle to the finish...

The Home Block was the first planting of vines at the Myrt le Point property in 1995. Positioned on a limestone bluff high above the Mitchell River, the Home Block consistently produces Chardonnay of concentration and power.

"Only 222 dozen bottles made despite the perfect growing season, the limitation being the small parcel from within the Home Block. Pressed straight to oak (20% new) for fermentation and 11 months maturation. The fruit aromas and flavours span white peach, grapefruit and melon, the oak no more than a textural play." 95pts - James Halliday

About the Winery

Lightfoot & Sons Myrtle Point Vineyard is located in East Gippsland, Victoria, within view of the Gippsland Lakes. The vineyard site, situated between the foothills of the Great Dividing Range and Bass Strait, was selected when soil mapping of the region identified tracts of the much celebrated Terra Rosa over Limestone soil structure.

The 29Ha vineyard was planted between 1995-1997 by the Lightfoot family on their farm ‘Myrtle Point’. Pinot Noir plantings make up almost half, with smaller bocks of Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet.

The wines are made by Alastair Butt and Tom Lightfoot. Alastair brings more than 25 years of winemaking experience to the winery, working previously in the Yarra Valley and Hunter Valley.   After completing a Viticultural Science and Wine Production degree, Tom has worked a number of vintages in wineries throughout Australia and the Northern Hemisphere.  Tom now manages the Myrtle Point Vineyard and assists Alastair in winemaking.
