Winner - Best Sparkling White - (bottle fermented 24-60 months) - The Australian Sparkling Wine Show 2018
The Australian Sparkling Wine Show is the only dedicated sparkling wine show in Australia. This year there were 140 entries. Lambrook “Emerson” Reserve Sparkling Pinot Noir 2013 won Best Sparkling White (bottle fermented 24-60 months).
What I like about Australian Sparkling in general is that our top examples are priced similar to entry level Champagne. Now the question has got to be asked, would you prefer a top, complex Australian Sparkling or bottom end, generic French Champagne?
This is only the 2nd time Lambrook has released the Emerson” Reserve Sparkling, they save it for the good years. And 2013 must have been a good year, yes it picked up Top Sparkling, but it's not just the show system where this sparkling is excelling, check out Huon Hooke's review:
"Attractive mellow, toasty bouquet; complex, substantial aldehyde, and the palate is rich and full, with generous flavour and nice texture, dry and firm but rich and generous too. Long finish. A complex, serious style of fizz."
Can you imagine Huon writing a review like that about a $39 Champagne....that's my point about how Australian Sparkling is such good value. If you you want to know what the fuss is about then look no further...you won't find a better $39 Sparkling in Australia, regardless of its origin.
