The Blanc de Blancs is made with the best parcels on the south slopes of Epernay. This is a perfect representation of the purety and energy coming from this area and the complexity of old vines of Chardonnay.
This is 2016 base with a significant 50% of reserve wines from the two previous vintages. It was disgorged in October 2018. This super mineral Champagne is 100% Chardonnay from the family's chalkiest soils in Chavot and Épernay--all sites that are biodynamically farmed. These vineyards are not only rich in chalk and chalky clay (marl) but there is also flint and schist. It's the 'chalkiness' however that drives the wine's striking, racy, intensely saline minerality (energy, freshness) and zingy, citric lines, while the clay content gives balancing fruit weight and texture.
100% chardonnay from 35yr old vines.
“[The small village of Chavot, in the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay]... is also home to the Laherte family, whose 10ha estate is a model of what can be achieved in less well-known terroirs by careful study of the soil, a viticulture of the highest order, and precepts of winemaking that are the best sort of evolved tradition … In their rich variety, though the estate’s policy of separate bottlings from specific parcels, Burgundy comes to Champagne, and the true identity of the vine is revealed.” Michael Edwards, The Finest Wines of Champagne
