"Totally seductive from the first sip. An exercise in restraint with a balance of stone fruit and citrus, spice and oak (a mere 16% new French barriques) and a subtle creamy, nutty lees influence (on lees 11 months without stirring). "For both flavour and for poise, this wine is spot on. You can buy/order it with confidence. It’s a flavoursome release, driven by grapefruit, grilled peach and pear, though it’s fresh and relatively zippy too. The aroma, the palate, the linger: all are in a good place. There’s a gentle burnt-butter aspect but it’s complexing and, in truth, only a tiny part of the wine. Kooyong Estate Chardonnay comprises fruit from the Faultline and Farrago blocks. It offers an overall expression of the Kooyong vineyard, with parcels of fruit from various soils and mesoclimates blended together to create the Estate label. Year after year the same parcels are consistently chosen, giving this wine an underlying likeness across vintages.
