"Llew Knight obviously enjoys this variety, observing it is similar to, but fresher than, its close relative pinot gris......but will say Macedon instills more vibrancy to pinot blanc than any other Australian region.." 90pts James Halliday
About this Wine
A close sibling of Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc is similar to, but fresher in character. Enjoy its gentle aromas of nashi and pear and honeysuckle flavours which proceed to a lovely rounded palate and a soft natural acidity finish. Just 250 dozen bottled.
"Llew Knight obviously enjoys this variety, observing it is similar to, but fresher than, its close relative pinot gris. I won't argue the toss about this, but will say Macedon instills more vibrancy to pinot blanc than any other Australian region.." 90pts - James Halliday - Wine Companion
"Fresh moves from Knight Granite Hills. A delight. Has strong detail of good pinot blanc in nashi pear scents and flavours, waxy texture, a touch of oatmeal-yeastiness lending additional personality. It’s succulent and long, at once refreshing and sending messages about more complex wines. Feels good to drink and does a super job of explaining the variety. Kudos." 92pts - Campbell Mattinson - WineFront
About the Winery
I have a major soft for Granite Hills. I used to live in the Macedon Range so call me bias but the Shiraz, Cabernet and Riesling are wonderful and dependable wines. Indeed I think the riesling is second only to Crawford River in terms of Victoria best offering of this variety.
Established in 1970 by the Knight family, the vines are the oldest in the region.
"Granite Hills is one of the enduring classics, having pioneered the successful growing of Riesling and Shiraz in an uncompromisingly cool climate. The vineyard includes Riesling, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Pinot Noir (the last also used in its sparkling wine). The Rieslings age superbly, and the Shiraz was the forerunner of the cool-climate school in Australia." 5 Star Winery - James Halliday
